End of RV summer trip 2010

 

As all good things come to an end so is this 2010 RV summer trip.

It was an exceptional one because Yuval (our eldest grand daughter ) asked to join us for a month,only  grandparents that had this experience can fully understand  how happy we were to except her wish.

The month with her flew by so quickly but every day ,every minute was a pure joy,she became part of the “crew” helping with trailer and camping activities and in the kitchen as well,the one that benefited from this was ME, 1 Chef and one Su Chef….what else can you ask for?

After dropping her off (with regret from both sides) at the airport to catch a direct flight back home, we continued to Pennsylvania,Maryland and Virginia.

Most of the time the weather was good allowing us to hike,swim ,explore and enjoy the outdoors.

We have meet friends from our previous RV trips and a friend from high school that we did not see for a whole decade…it was fun to say the least.

We also made some new friends from the RV family and enjoyed sharing stories ,interesting trip and future plans.

One of them invited us to store the rig for the winter on his property what made the end of the trip more enjoyable and easy – we thank them for all they have done for us.

As the season came to the end we found ourselves almost alone in C.G,morning were chilly and getting warm became an issue we decided to move and cross the boarder back to Canada , this time the crossing was smooth and easy I did not even step out of my truck…..

The last C.G was next to Niagara falls on the Canadian side  on a beautiful lake and nice Autumn colors,we used the stay top winterize and prepare the trailer for the winter storage.

From there we drove all the way to our friends and stored the trailer next to their house and got all the help we  needed .It was Thanksgiving evening and we were invited to share a dinner with the whole family,what a great evening it was.

Finally we left the trailer and drove with the truck to Toronto to spend time with our son and our Toronto friends,eating,hiking and catching up since our last meeting.

Close to our flight back home we dropped of the truck spending another two days there before returning to Toronto.

Hard to believe that we just ended our 9th RV summer trip ,good things past fast,but have already plans for our 10th trip….till then…bye.

Ontario with Yuval 2010-Part 2

After spending almost a month Rving with Yuval I must say that it was an outstanding experiance,we knew it will be a pleasure but could not forecast her interest/attitude after being away from home and family for so long-She was FANTASTIC.
Yuval was involved in all the activity's around the trailer and the cooking,she enjoyed hiking,swimming and experiencing new environment, we have never felt that she is "down" or homesick.
To my friends I warmly recommend to travel with your grand kids for short period and share some quality time with them,it is something that we enjoyed and plan to do with the other grand kids when time will come.
We saw Yuval grow in front of our eyes in one month,she is clever curious and a great group player.

Canada with Yuval

As I have already posted this summer RV trip is going to be a special one,our eldest grand daughter Yuval that just turned to be 12 years old asked us if she can join us for a month traveling with our trailer.
It was certainly a pleasant surprise for us knowing that today's kids prefer hanging out with their friends rather with their grandparents.
So after discussing and getting the blessing from Yuval's parents and her brothers we started to get used to the idea.
As I was getting the tickets ready I asked Yuval again if she is sure about being away for whole month ,she looked at me and said "grandpa,one whole month not less" , well after this there is nothing to say but get ahead with the plan and ticket reservations.
The general plan is to travel with Yuval in beautiful Ontario visiting some kids attractions as water parks,pioneer villages,amusement park and RVing in Bruce Peninsula ,hiking,sailing among the Islands,visiting waterfalls and other attractions.
For her to experiance the RV life will be a new thing and as I know her she will love it.
She is a good team player,like to help around and likes cooking.
So saying all this I must be blessed to have 2 beautiful ladies with me on the RV trip-That is called LIFE.....

Trading the truck

In 2002 we have bought our first rig,F-250 1994 ,Turbo Diesel and a 1999 5w Wonderer from Thor.

After 4 years we have traded the 5W for a 2006 Cruiser and now we have traded our good old truck.

The Ford pulled the trailer from Alaska till Newfoundland with many side trips in between,overcame mountain peaks in Colorado and Wyoming with minimum problems, I took care of it and got in return a great pulling truck.

It took 24 hours from the time I published it for sale till the deal was completed and it actually surprised me that it went so fast and smooth.

I sold the Ford only after I have completed an Internet deal for a F-350 2006,SD,EC,Auto,SRW located in California from a person that later became a “friend” although I have never saw him in person.

Wayne was the only owner of this Ford and he was more “crazy” than I am when it comes to care and maintain the truck, it is clean,never had a body repair and beautiful inside and out.

Accidently I also “meet” on the RV forum a guy that bought a 5W from Wayne and he said that he would buy anything from Wayne with no fear at all.

Here is the new “beast” , it has everything I need to pull my 5W including hitch,towing mirrors,electrical connection,Tow/Haul Mode and special breaks.

Wayne was very straight forward and did everything to to help this transaction to go smooth.

I am already anxious to take it on the road..

Foliage colors in North Ontario

Many campgrounds close close to mid October because of the weather,the water freezes during the night and it starts to be a survival issue rather than enjoyment.

So we prepared the trailer for the winter and storied it just and hour from Toronto.

We are keeping the truck till we fly away and meantime enjoy the changing of the leave colors in Ontario.

The trip to Algonquin S.P was very pleasant when suddenly strong snow started to fall on us,it was unexpected and caught us of guard, so I pulled aside and took a shot through the window .

The snow stopped as it began and after 15 minutes the sun came out like nothing happened.

The power of nature was at its best,in the Spring it is the Waterfalls,in the Winter it is the Snow and now in Autumn it is the Foliage.

The rest of the trip was amazing,forests turn Yellow and Red,Lakes reflect the colors of the leaves and the ground is covered with leaves with different colors-Just beautiful.

From St John to Woodstock N.B 15 June 2009

We left Toronto after spending some time with our young son and headed towards Llyod & Nancy’s place where we left of trailer last Autumn, our friends greeted us at the airport and made it easy for us to get ready for the trip to come.

Although the winter is harsh in this part of the world and many people just go South the truck and trailer did good and all we had to do is wash and clean it from the outside,service them and hit the road.

Our first stop was in Woodstock N.B close the Maine boarder in a small beautiful C.G situated where 2 rivers join-great spot as you can see.

Even though it is already mid June the weather here is very shifty, it was sunny as we pulled in the c.g but 35 minutes latter dark clouds covered the sky and heavy rain poured just as we settled in.

There is a saying in these parts “ IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE WEATHER JUST WAITE 5 MINUTES” and surly after a while blue sky showed again.

End of the first day and ready for the second….

Down Town &Toronto Islands-October 2008

The rig is always stored at the end of each summer trip and can be a different location from the last year but we always fly through Toronto because of several reasons, first of all our youngest son lives in Toronto so we can be with him at least twice a year and second there is a direct flights to Tel-Aviv.
We also get over the jet leg after the long flight from Israel and take the time to explore different parts of the city and the surroundings.

This year we spent time in down town and on the Islands.


Down town and the close area except being a business's center has many beautiful spots, like China Town, Kensington Market ,Distillery Historic District and others.

Walking the streets or taking the subway you wonder if you are in Canada or in some other place in which people speak different languages , so many nationalities and cultures and all get along well together-amassing.

I general I prefer the nature, the outdoors and the space I have while traveling with the trailer,but I found that Downtown Toronto has its special appeal and I can sit in a coffee shop listen to street singers and just watch the people .
In my first visits I got uncomfortable with all the crowds especially after RVing in open area's that are nothing like this place,but I learned to get along and even enjoy this loud crowded place as well, it is different but nice.

Will be flying from Toronto to Boston to visit Yariv our middle son,his wife Ayelet and their daughter and our youngest granddaughter Roni that turns 2 this month.

We are grateful to have at this era Internet,so we can share,talk and even see friends and family at any given time when being far away.

2008 7th RV trip-East Canada

We flew to Toronto to visit our youngest son Nimrod , and then to Boston to spend time with our middle son Yariv, his wife Ayelet and Roni our youngest granddaughter,this way we see them at least twice a year once on the way to the trailer and once on the way home at the end of each trip.
The visits are always emotional as they are relatively short and only once in half a year.
Getting back to the starting point we were meet by Nancy and Llyod that are going out of their way to help us getting on the road.

After a few days we headed to North Sydney to catch the ferry to NL as a begging point to make it on time to see some Icebergs before the melt or go South.
From that point we started slowly to circle this beautiful Island, I planned one and a half months but we traveled along we decided to give it another whole month-and we are not sorry a bit.

The nature,the sea food and especially the PEOPLE make New Foundland a great unique place, we have made a lot of friends on this Island and we loved every minute we spent there although the weather was not always as summer should be.
We hiked,visited festivals,went to dinner theaters,pubs with Celtic music and socialized with locals all this made the stay in New Foundland great, we will come again..

Our next destination was the famous great Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia,nature at it's best..every turn a new and beautiful scenery appears and you start to wonder if this is for real.
We had some mechanical problems with our truck, usually I do not get into it on the blog but this time I am doing it because I wanted to thank the people from Sydney NS that went of their way to help me out,they fixed the problem in no time even in the weekend,left me their personal car so I will be able to drive around and did not let me go till they were satisfied with the repair.

P.E.I is a place to end a long trip, it is relaxing,beautiful and groomed all together, we spent there 10 last days of the trip before heading back to N.B passing through the Hopwell Rocks to see the magnificent phenomena of the TIDES, we walked on the ocean floor when the tide was out and saw the rocks all covered with 16 meters of water when the tide is in, what a sight.
Now the rig is stored in our friends property and we are on the way home through Toronto and Boston, it is the end of our 7th trip (unbelievable) but there is always next year.....till then.

2007 6TH RV trip-Ontario,Quebeck

Starting from Thunder Bay we headed east along the North Shore of Ontario Lake, we had to remind ourselves that it is a lake rather than a sea,it is so large , the waves are so strong that it gives you the feeling that it is a sea.

The parks along this route are outstanding, long sandy beaches,trees,Islands,waterfalls-Paradise..
The diamond on the crown this year was meeting Nicky and Grant in Sue San Marie and then at their place in Whit Fifth Falls.
It was a complete surprise to see their fantastic house and the boat docking at their pier, we were invited to join them on a cruise around the area and had enjoyed every minute of it-Thanks friends and hope to see you again.

We also were able to meet with Jim and Sylvia that came all the way from California to meet us in Ottawa and spend time with us in Mount Tremblant before heading back home.

We continued to Quebec and all around the beautiful Gaspe Penninsula,watching the "big" whales play around
us.
Ending our current trip in New Brunswick at Nancy's and Llyod place, a great couple we "meet" on the RV forum.
They made us feel at home and for that -Thanks a million.

2002-First RV trip to Alaska

Our first RV experience started in Edmonton,we knew that we wanted to RV but had no idea what and how to purchase a RV.
It took us 2 weeks to figure out what we want and what we could afford.
Finlay we purchased a Ford F-250 1994 Turbo diesel 7.3 Lt (have it till today) and a 27" 5W with one slide 1996 in a perfect condition.
It looked as a good choice as we love to hike and do side trips without having to pull a small car behind, just leave the trailer in the C.G and tour the area with the tow.
It took us another 10 days to get the paper work,stock the fridge and learn how to use the rig and we were on our way NORTH.
Edmonton-Jasper-Banff-Vancouver Island-Yukon-Alaska and back all in 5 fantastic months.
It was fantastic,the nature,people,hikes and wild life we experienced was way above our expectations.
My cousin Marlon & his wife Sally( a local Alaska girl)live in Nanwalek across the English canal and we had the great opportunity to stay with them for a while and experiance their way of life,enjoy the wilderness,go fishing with no time limit but the tides and meet my family-oh that was OUTSTANDING-thanks Marlon&Sally.
We meet Yariv and Ayelet in Anchorage in the beginning of August that joined us for a whole month traveling around Alaska, it was a pleasure having them with us.
We actually had to pinch ourselves that we are DOING it,after so many years of dreaming about getting away and exploring North America with no time table and as flexible as possible.
strong>Yes we were living our dream and not from the window of our
room, it took some planning and of course being away from home ,family and friends for 5 months but "you can not eat the cake and still have it".....
To all our friends we say "do what you want if you can afford it".
We stored the rig in a C.G near Edmonton,winterized it and flew home just to start from the same spot next spring....what a journey...
