Astoria OR

Our last stop in Oregon was Astoria , a lovely town in North West Oregon with a beautiful downtown area ,a promenade along the Colombia River, a river that enters the Pacific Ocean on the West side of the town.

A long bridge connects Oregon to Washington State , part of the bridge is high enough to allow ships to pass under it.

Driving on it is quite of an experiance.

A street trolley runs along the promenade and charges 1$ for a ride or 2$ for the day, it is sure a very beautiful addition to this area.

Along the promenade one can find museums, breweries, resturants , malls and shops, it is so relaxing to stroll along (if the weather is good) and have a great Ocean view as you go.

We saw this piece of equipment as we strolled along the river side, I have no idea what it is but it sure looks like it has something to say...

We were very luck to meet Steve and Karen a few weeks before during one of our hikes, somehow we got connected and had some beers together, the next thing we knew this lovely couple invited us to stay with them during the 4th of July, it was just amazing and we feel very thankful for their hospitality.

Shula helped in the kitchen to prepare some dishes and we were happy to meet the family that gathered for the ocassion.

There is a lot to see on the Oregon side and on Washington State side, the coasts creates lovely beaches ,coves and lakes that sometimes you wonder where is the Ocean and where is a water inlet.

One of the best places to see the views from a high place is from this Tower all decorated with Louis and Clark voyage , as this was their final destination after starting the trip in St Louis. Forgot to meantion that there is no elevator and to get to the top we climbed 164 steps….

As we love waterfalls ,beaches, lighthouses and beer so we decided to combine all the above and take time enjoying all of it .. it sure was great and we did not break any law..

Bay City Oregon

Bay City is 6 miles North of Tillamook and located in the center of our next days activity.

The city park of Bay City was our home for the next 5 days.

It has only 4 sites all on grass and with full hookups, there are pit toilets and it is only 17 $ a night , so it was not crowded at all….exactly as we like it.

For a few years we were online with a great couple Karen and Tony and always waited for the right moment to get together, and finally our paths crossed and we meet face to face rather than on the net.

Karen and Tony are full timers and I take my hat off to this brave adventures couple that despite the difficulties being in a wheelchair are traveling and enjoying the life as they like.

We had a great evening together and they had to leave in the next mo

The next 4 days were just fantastic , one day we drove North, the second South along the coast stopping in every view point ,visiting the small villages, having great sea food, watching the fisherman come back from the sea and just having a great time.

It is hard to explain what we went through so I will let some picture speak...

In one evening we drove at 9PM to a view point near Garibaldi took the chairs from the truck and saw one of the most beautiful sunsets ever.

Wow what a picture… we had some wine with us but we were not dreaming…

The next day after hiking a beautiful waterfall in Munson S.P and during our picnic an unexpected visitor came by to share with us a snack.

Tillamook has a few interested things to offer too , museum, cheese factory and a small fascinating down town.

The villages along the coast are very inviting, some very groomed and offer a variety of things to do , from great sea foods, to great beaches and small beautiful marina's.

Did you see a waterfall on the beach ? Or a rock shaped as a dog or and sealion?

My English is too poor to describe what we experienced along this portion of the Oregon Coast, in one word INCREDABLE.

Lets hope for more days like these and always have the wine glass full.
