Our last stop in Oregon was Astoria , a lovely town in North West Oregon with a beautiful downtown area ,a promenade along the Colombia River, a river that enters the Pacific Ocean on the West side of the town.
A long bridge connects Oregon to Washington State , part of the bridge is high enough to allow ships to pass under it.
Driving on it is quite of an experiance.
A street trolley runs along the promenade and charges 1$ for a ride or 2$ for the day, it is sure a very beautiful addition to this area.
Along the promenade one can find museums, breweries, resturants , malls and shops, it is so relaxing to stroll along (if the weather is good) and have a great Ocean view as you go.
We saw this piece of equipment as we strolled along the river side, I have no idea what it is but it sure looks like it has something to say...
We were very luck to meet Steve and Karen a few weeks before during one of our hikes, somehow we got connected and had some beers together, the next thing we knew this lovely couple invited us to stay with them during the 4th of July, it was just amazing and we feel very thankful for their hospitality.
Shula helped in the kitchen to prepare some dishes and we were happy to meet the family that gathered for the ocassion.
There is a lot to see on the Oregon side and on Washington State side, the coasts creates lovely beaches ,coves and lakes that sometimes you wonder where is the Ocean and where is a water inlet.
One of the best places to see the views from a high place is from this Tower all decorated with Louis and Clark voyage , as this was their final destination after starting the trip in St Louis. Forgot to meantion that there is no elevator and to get to the top we climbed 164 steps….
As we love waterfalls ,beaches, lighthouses and beer so we decided to combine all the above and take time enjoying all of it .. it sure was great and we did not break any law..
Good beer, good food, good weather, good vistas and especially good new friends.
Till we meet again.
