Good time with family & friends in Los Angeles

We are all Older,balder,fatter ,have “senior” moments often and we did not see each other for more years than I want to remember BUT we are old friends from High School and the Navy.

So this was a great opportunity to get together  with my 3 “old palls” that live in Los Angeles, two are from the same High School and know each other ,Sam on the left,Dan on the right and our host

Shula that was my girlfriend in High School and knows Sam & Dan since the good old times was of course with us too,we just had a great time correcting the world and wondering how fast did 50 years fly by.

My navy friend Samuel lives in the valley ,has a nice house and a great family , we were lucky to meet them all celebrating “Sukkot” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukkot in their yard.

      

While the trailer was stored in Palmdale (it will be there during the winter) we stayed with Ron (Shula’s cousin) & Sara , they were perfect hosts and made us instantly feel at home ,we went our for dinners,movie and a Regatta .

   

So after a great RV summer trip that covered N.Colorado-Utah-Nevada and East Sierras we had fantastic time with family and friends in the City.

Thank you all for your kind hospitality ,will see you all again in the next summer and not after 50 years ….

Longmont,Loveland Colorado-meetings friends & Family

After 13 years traveling with our 5W it is the  first time we are coming back to the same State…Colorado.

We have been here 10 years ago and made some friends and with the ones that we stayed in touch we wanted to meet again and catch up.

We chose to camp for 3 days in Longmont CO fairgrounds and visit 2 friends and one  nephew.

In 2005 while hiking we meet Warren & Tami ,with them was an 11 year old girl,we walked the hike and talked with them enjoying their company and the the young girl’s behaviour.

At the end of the hike Warren gave me his business card and we stayed connected through e-mails and Skype,now 10 years later we meet a 21 year old lady and had a great time with Tami & Warren.

 

In 2005 we pooled into a C.G at the Grand Canyon ,next to us parked an A class and the owners were trying to get their gas grill going with not to much of a success, so I pulled my grill out and handed it to them before leaving the C.G for a hike.

Coming back in the evening we were invited by David & Cheryl for some drinks and stayed in touch till we met again a week ago…we all got older,wiser and slower but we stayed friends.

My nephew is doing his PHD in Bolder University and it sure was a great opportunity to visit his family that expended from 2 to 3…and now they have a 3 months old baby named Ari.

So here we had 3 days of socializing,catching up and having fun.

Today we moved to Riverview RV park near Loveland and it will be our home till 5th of July,woow it was hard to get a site in such a short notice ,but we did it.

From here we will do side trips to Estes Park and to Rocky Mountain N.P to do some hiking .

4&5 July Maine

The 4th of July was a rainy wet day but it did not stop us from having a great time with friends and good food.

The food preparations started around noon,Gary had the best racks of ribs smoked on his brand new smoker.

Coal was inserted into the small compartment on the left and the ribs after been marinated where put on the right side of the smoker and species were added on the upper side.

The led was closed and it smoked for 6 hours during when Gary was inspecting the process ,smelling poking and checking the heat from time to time till a fork was easily inserted between the ribs .

The smells from that smoker made it difficult to hold and wait till the guests were ready to eat–what a suffer….

I have a confession-I have never eat such ribs,it was soft and delicious even Jack (the Dog) enjoyed the left over's.

It was difficult but we got up the next day to a beautiful morning ,the sky was blue ,a color that was not seen for many days in Maine ,people say that such a wet summer they can not remember for many years.

We headed South to Stonington ,hour and half drive through beautiful landscape to have lunch in a restaurant on the beach.

This restaurant was “waiting” for Gary and Terri,on her last birthday they took a ride down there just to find it closed and now on the 5 of July we made it there together and had a blast.

Winterport Maine-Gary,Terri and Jack.

Each winter I research,read and learn about the coming summer trip we will be doing, I mark the map with all the interesting points I wish to visit and then combine them with scenic byways.

I also mark the interesting hikes,scenic routs,special events and C.G.

After having “The plan” I post the route on the RV forum asking Rver’s to comment on it after getting their responses do the corrections accordingly.

It happened that we have actually meet with people that we “talked ” on the forum and it was always a special experience.

This winter as before I have posted my route and asked a few questions hoping to receive first hand answers from locals or people that have RVed in these parts of the country.

One answer was from Gary advising me NOT to take the trailer on certain roads in North Maine ,since then we have exchanged a few e-mails during the winter and finally he invited us to “park” our trailer on his huge property while touring the area….and all this without meeting face to face…well it was hard to turn such an offer down ,and a “mark on the map was underlined as Gary’s place.

Finally in June we started our summer trip and while camping in Baxter S.P Maine,I called Gary and invited him and Terry to visit us ,and we had the pleasure meeting him and his wife after a long time of just meeting on the air,we meet a warm and great couple that live and do what they both love and we found a lot in common.

Another 2 weeks passed and we made it to their place ,as it rained cats and dogs the grounds were wet and difficult to park on ,here you can see the spot for our RV before and after,woow what a job and effort to make us feel welcome-Thanks Gary&Terri for your hospitality ,meeting you and Jack (The dog a part of the family) makes our trip special.
