We have to admit it –the weather runs our life ,on our 4th day in Mount Airy it was rainy and hot,so we had an option either to hike and get soaked or stay in the trailer work the computer or read a book-well we chose the second option ,but only till noon when we decided it is a good opportunity to get supplies from the closest Walmart.
On the next morning we spent 2 hours searching for a C.G with electricity in the Mercer County WV as many counties lost electrical power due to the storm.
Putting this issue behind us we took of to Downtown Mount Airy to watch the local 4th July parade.
It was fun, hot, colorful and took around an hour to go through.
We had some extra time between the end of the parade till a band will perform in the Veteran’s Park,so to cool off we had an excellent Ice cream Soda ,visited a museum where Donna Fargo (a country music singer) signed autographs and listened to some music .
BAND IN THE MUSEUM DONNA FARGO
No 4th of July is complete without fire works ,so we had to put up with the Band in the Veteran Park that after 2 hours of constant Rock music gave me a headache –finally the beautiful display of colors was all over the sky (hard to catch on camera)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA

We love to watch small town parades or even visit their farmer's market. The take so much pride in what they do. Glad you took some time out to visit with the locals.
Not sure you guys know - but Mount Airy is the basis for the TV show "Andy Griffith" set in Mayberry. We had so much fun while we were there. I love those small towns and their celebrations. Much better than the cities.
Do you have any celebration in Israel that resembles our 4th of July? Any time you use fireworks?
I grew up watching Andy Griffith. What a great show! The star of the show, Andy, died on the 3rd. How nice to be in the town where the show was based. 4th of July parades are the best. Safe travels and hopefully the weather will cool down soon.
We have the same events during our Day Of Independence.
We all grew on Andy Griffith and it was interesting and sad at the same time when he passed away.
