We are so glad we called in “sick” yesterday and styed at “home” not traveled in bad weather to this beautiful forest.
We started at 8AM having coffee with Mary and Loren at our trailer before taking off through scenic route to DuPont State Forest,Loren & Mary know thier way in this area so the back roads were not new to them and we enjoyed the scenery as we drove along.
On the way we stopped to see the beautiful Connestee Falls on Hwy 276 that are located very close to the parking lot .
Back to the car and to DuPont Sate Forest NC http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/dupont1.htm
This huge forest has many hikes for bicycles,Horses and hikers all leading to waterfalls and overlooks.
Loren that is 83 years old but young in heart leaded us like a mountain goat through different paths with the most beautiful scenery that allowed us to see the falls from the best view points.
First we hiked to Triple Falls and walked the on the rocks beside this 3 stage falls so we could see them from close distance and feel the water spray on us.
The hike continued along the river followed with the water sound all along ,it was like music to our ears, after another mile uphill we reached a covered bridge just on top of the Triple Falls and on the way to the High Falls that could be seen from different locations.
We then started our way back down hill to the parking lot just to pick our picnic bags and continue to Hookers Falls (I wonder who gave these falls this name….),we picked a place on the rocks and had our lunch.
While sitting there a kayak came down stream and plunked into the pool from the top of the falls, what a show it was.
The skies became suddenly darker and we were ready to get back to the car and visit Ceasar Head S.P in SC on our way back to the C.G,the view from the top was stunning and even the light fog added to the beauty.
As we took of towards the C.G it started to rain but this did not stop us for stopping for Ice cream that was the right thing at the right time.
The day ended by having all 4 of us a BBQ with sweet corn, beer, fresh salad from the C.G garden given to us by the friendly owner and all this with great company and listening to oldies by Petty Klein –WHAT A DAY…may many more like this come along.

That guy in the kayak is nuts but wow what a sight that must have been. The waterfalls are beautiful and such a neat place to have a picnic.
Amazing!
