Colorado Springs,Canon City,Train Ride to Royal Gorge CO

Map picture

It is said that bad things happen in threesomes ,we found mice in the trailer after the winter storage and it took us 2 days to get rid of them,as we were on the way to Jim’s Tires in Canon City we blew a tire just few miles fro the shop ,one of the two  tires that were to be replaced and one of the two batteries gave up….it was a rough start….but now we are good and do not expect any more problems.

On our first night in Mountaindale C.G near Colorado Springs we experienced a strong storm with hale, luckily we were already settled down and could watch the storm from the window.

In the following day it was like nothing happened and we woke up to a beautiful day

and decided to take a train ride to the Royal Gorge,it takes 2 hours and follows the Arkansas River all the way ,then passes under the Royal Gorge bridge, the scenery was just exceptional.

Although we had designated seats it was possible to walk to the open carriage and have a gorgeous view all over the gorge

There were a few small waterfalls along the route and the train stewardess warned us  to get the cameras ready just before we got to see them.

Getting back to the depot we found out that in the park close by an event is going on,some music food and beer, but before going there we decided to eat our food and not be tempted to grab some fast food,a great place near the river was just perfect.

Later in the park we had fantastic cold beer while listening to the band.

On the way back we stopped and soaked  in Hot Pools where the clothes were optional ,and that is why I have no pictures to show….it was a great finally to a great day and all the problems were just forgotten.

It was awesome driving “home” at the evening when the sun is low surrounded by beautiful views and colors while Frank Sinatra is singing “I did it my way” ….

You are exploring an area very familiar to us. We have family living in Canon City. Great photos from the Royal Gorge Train. Have fun.

No fun to have a blow out, mice and dead batteries. Hopefully all of the issues are behind you. We drove up to the top of Pikes Peak rather than taking the railroad because of Jim's breathing problems. I wanted the option of being able to turn around and get to lower altitudes if he started having problems. However, he made it all the way to the top and did fine. We didn't stay long but it has amazing views.

A little scary about the tire blowout. Glad you are the road and having fun. We loved Colorado Springs, lots to see and do.

There is such beautiful scenery in Colorado. We took a similar train ride in Arizona through a gorge, gotta love the train for that. It also had open cars for viewing which I think is a great idea.

So glad you were able to forget about the bad things at the beginning of a trip. At least you had mice, we had two scorpions in ours!

Indeed, it's a very nice area.Hail storms are quite common in Colorado where weather and temps can change without much warning.

Thank you all so much for your kind remarks , I know I am not a good "follower" so please forgive me on not responding the way I should.
We of course overcomed the initial issues , it is a part of the RV life and we except it , IF YOU CAN FIX IT WITH $$ THAN YOU ARE GOOD...
See you all down the road

This is Will and Sheryl who you met at the Royal Gorge overlook. We really enjoyed talking to you, and were sorry we didn't see you at the campground. We had a great stay there. If you did the train ride on Sunday morning we may have seen you as we hiked Tunnel Drive along the river. We are back home in Houston now but wishing we were back in the cooler mountains. We wish you safe travels and great times on your journeys.
