Everett WA is sitting on the Puget Sound just 20 miles North of Seattle , it has a great marina, lots of shops and restaurants , but we chose this location as it is close to HWY 2 and the scenic loop .
We had an early start in the morning heading towards Granit Falls WA the gate to the Scenic Loop, our first stop was at the Granit Water Falls , it is located on the Scenic Loop after passing the town, there is no sign indicating the location of the Falls and we missed it twice...
For the ones that are interested the coordinates are 48.10306 -121.95222, there is a bridge and a pullout, the sign actually says " Fishery" , so we parked and took the only trail we found ,after a short walk (10-15 minutes) we saw stairs going down ,and here were the falls , not impressive but still worth the walk.
It was fun walking on the granite rocks and I am sure that along the river there will be more Falls/Cascades like this one.
The Ranger station at the beginning of the scenic loop was closed so we used the toilets and continued another 20 Miles driving East towards The Big Four Mountain and hiked an easy one mile towards the Ice Caves.
It was one of the hottest days we experienced in August so it was sure nice to enter the Ice Caves , it felt like getting into a fridge. it was cold and wet, we were sorry that we had no rain jacket with us .
Looking up we could see few waterfalls running on the rocks into the back of the caves, so a word of caution- THE CAVES ARE NOT STABLE....
Another great day just passed enriching our lives as we go and adding new memories to our enlarging collection, so enjoy every minute it an’t coming back.
