Ouachita National Forest
The 54 Mile Talimena Scenic Drive is one of the highest mountain ranges between the Appalachians and the Rockies.
One breathtaking panorama follows another as this national forest scenic byway winds along the crest of forested mountains between Mena Arkansas and Talihina Oklahoma.
This one I took through the windshield (after I stopped …)
And this through the side mirror showing the winding road behind us.
There are 26 viewing points along the T.S.D all with spacious parking space to allow few cars to park at the same time, but on Sunday the traffic was very slow and I could actually stop in the middle of the Hwy to take pictures.
On one of the highest stops we found a fire observation tower –Closed, the information on the board-missing and the toilets-closed,,,well it is August and the season is over…..
Another way enjoy the Talimena Scenic Drive is from a relaxing this position….
The drive although was not so long but it took us around 8 hours all together with the stops, the picnic and some short hikes, but when we came back to the C.G in Mena AR there was an incredible sunset
Great way to end a great day.
Moving on tomorrow to Hot Springs AR.

I love the pictures of the road through all the green. Such a contrast. I'm sorry but I don't think Shula looks all that comfortable laying on that bench - she needs a pillow. lol
