Rocky Mountains N.P CO-Day 3 Bridal Veil Falls hike

Bridal Veil Falls is located 3.05 miles from the Cow Creek Trailhead on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The hike closely follows Cow Creek through ponderosa parks and aspen-fir forests to the 20' cascade.

The Trail Head is located on Devils Gulch RD. and the parking space is very limited , but some one up there must have said “these guys come from such a long way lets hold them one spot” and so it was –only one parking spot was available.

By now you have figured that our hikes are always close to water,in any kind of form,lakes,rivers,cascades and of course water falls.

So after 2 great days hiking in RMNP it was the turn of Bridal Veil Falls that are located in a remote area of the park and not so popular accordingly to the number of people we saw on the trail .

It is a 6.4 Miles round trip with elevation gain of 1060’,so we got all our gear including raincoats and started the hike is a PERFECT weather,the first 1.5 Miles through a beautiful meadow gaining elevation very slow.

Shula did not like the clouds coming our way but we just pulled ahead.

The second part of the hike was along the river with roaring waters,small bridges and lovely spots to stop ,have some thing to eat or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

   

It was so quite ,only the running water could be heard,no mosquitos or other disturbing insects and only very few hikers ,it was just perfect.

The last 1/4 of a mile before the falls was just straight up, rough and rugged terrain and sometimes hard to find the right way to go,so hearing the loud noise of falling water gave us the last push.

 

and after 2 1/2 hours with some stops on the way we reached the magnificent  Bridal Veil Falls,and what a sight it was…

This spectacular nature miracle is always amazes us and it was hard to start getting back,but out of the blue the skies got covered with clouds and thunders were herd all over the place,so we tried to get of the forest area into the meadows as soon as possible.

One mile before the T/H the skies opened and it started to rain “cats & dogs” each drop like a tennis ball…the raincoats helped but not enough,we got to the truck all wet up to our underwear's and with water in the hiking shoes,so we exchanged our shirts,replaced the hiking shoes to sandals had some hot coffee we always have in the truck and headed “home” to dry all the wet stuff.

On the way home we saw this guy that did not care about the weather at all.

We wished for a better ending but it still was an experience…by the way 25 Miles from the trail and in our C.G there was not a drop of rain..
